As the two of us rested our heads on top of sumptuous silk cushions under Craig’s beautiful grand piano, Craig began to play that piano, not just any pieces, but his own improvisations.…There’s always something incredibly intimate about receiving something that someone is creating just for you and one other. It’s the sort of moment that brings a lump to my throat and a tear to my eye.
And there was something else happening when Craig continued to play improvisation after improvisation. As a singer, I drifted into my own world, my melodies accompanying Craig’s piano music, playing variants around his chords and arpeggios, and it became a timeless place and space. With the music “happening” directly overhead, it’s all-engulfing, immediate, a gift in the present moment, because there is no other moment. And I heard with more than my ears – with my heart and my body. Thank you Craig. It was brilliant!
If you’re looking for an unusual gift for friends this Christmas, this is something that should definitely be on your list.
